The singer took to social media to complain about the fact that hotels only have ‘white people shampoo.’ But while her intentions were all good, Halsey received a lot of backlash for her tweet!
Her post about how hotels only offer one type of shampoo that she labeled as for ‘white people’ and which doesn’t work with her hair, sparked a huge online argument.
‘I have been traveling for years now and it has been so frustrating that the toiletry industry completely alienates people of color. I cannot use the perfumed watered-down white-people shampoo. Neither can 50 percent of your customers. Annoying,’ the tweet read.
Soon after, people reacted to her controversial statement, some slamming the singer.
‘You have an assistant do you not? Buy your own and stop making just everything a race issue,’ one user tweeted.
‘This got to be the very dumbest Tweet I have seen in a while. Offended by hotel shampoo. Dear Lord!’ another wrote.
But while a lot of people just told her to get her own shampoo and stop complaining, others wanted to discuss more the issue of race which is still a huge problem in our time.
Some stressed that Halsey was one of those ‘white people,’ to which she replied with ‘No. I am Not.’
As you may be aware, the singer is actually biracial as she mom is white and her father is black.
She also slammed back someone who wondered how shampoo could ever be racist.
‘How can you have lived your life without knowing people of color and white people need different hair care products.’
Halsey continued making her point with more tweets.
‘The point is that mass-production of these products as the standard is part of a bigger problem of disenfranchisement. If white people can enjoy the luxury/convenience, there should be an option for everyone. It’s an ‘insignificant’ example of a greater problem. That is all!’
