Producers at NBC’s hit reality singing competition The Voice were planning on having Gwen Stefani return as a judge next season. However, a network insider says that Blake Shelton’s girlfriend will not be coming back as originally planned, and everyone is upset because Stefani is a big part of The Voice family. Does this mean that there is trouble in paradise for Stefani and Shelton?
Everything seems to be just fine between the two lovebirds after they turned heads over the weekend when they attended the American Country Music Awards in Las Vegas. Because of his busy schedule, this was the first awards show appearance in a long time for Shelton. He says it is “brutal” to balance his reality show schedule and touring schedule with the ACM’s and CMA’s.
The reason Stefani won’t be returning to The Voice is because this summer she will be starting her first Las Vegas residency at the Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino.
Last week, the city shut down a portion of Las Vegas Boulevard, so Stefani could make her official arrival where she will be performing 25 shows starting on June 27th.
“I just gotta take a second to actually believe this is happening,” Stefani told the crowd. “Imagine, I’m just a girl from Orange County in Anaheim, California, and never in my wildest dreams could I imagine that I’d be doing my own Vegas residency.”

Sources told Radar that Stefani had to choose between The Voice and the Vegas gig. And, because it was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, she chose Vegas. However, she knows that she can return to the NBC show anytime she wants.
The insider added that Stefani and Shelton have such good chemistry on and off the show, and he isn’t going anywhere.
Rumors had swirled that there were problems between Shelton and NBC executives because Stefani wasn’t returning, and he was resentful because Miley Cyrus and Jennifer Hudson replaced her in season 13. Then, Alicia Keys and Kelly Clarkson took the open spots for the current season.

There were also reports that NBC was upset with the couple because they didn’t bring the PDA during season 12 – the last time they were part of the show together.
But, it seems that if there was any bad blood, the drama is now in the past. Shelton continues to be a popular judge on the show, and Gwen Stefani has chosen to perform in Vegas for the time being. However, there is always the chance that she will return at some point in the future.
Blake Shelton can be seen every week on new episodes of The Voice on NBC.
