Star of the hit black-ish spinoff grown-ish, Yara Shahidi is celebrating a birthday today as the beauty turns 18. Now legally an adult, many would be surprised that she’s still so young with so much life ahead of her.
An incredibly well-spoken, thoughtful young woman with the illocution of a much older, experienced one, Shahidi has impressed so many of those she has come into contact with.
Many were introduced to her as the funny eldest daughter on the hit show black-ish. With the show’s huge success, the spinoff grown-ish was created with Shahidi as the star.
That show has also enjoyed a relative amount of acclaim in its infancy and already scored a second season pickup.
Aside from the acting work that Shahidi partakes in, she is also a fierce and outspoken social activist and has given many talks and interviews regarding the current state of our society.
As a mixed woman of both African American and Iranian descent, she speaks at length about the importance of inclusion and representation.
Shahidi has been lauded as a voice for consciousness and change in her age group and generation.
Today, more than surreal: magical. Honored to be able to be in the presence of and in conversation with @oprah ✨ today was a reminder of the power of intergenerational support and I can't believe I'll be entering my 18th year on such a high note- surrounded by family, friends I consider family, and inspiration. #SuperSoulConversations
She recently joined Oprah in a conversation that was taped for the Super Soul Sunday series, her episode will air February 27.
Shahidi talks about having the tough conversations regarding differences and understanding the harmful realities that held biases often contribute to.
The beauty wants to live in a more equitable world that focuses on the proper inclusion of people of color, women and underrepresented groups.
She’s well on her way to making a sensational mark on the world as she’s just been accepted into Harvard University where she will be studying sociology. When she applied she received a recommendation letter from former first lady Michelle Obama.
The sky is truly the limit for this young woman and whatever she chooses to do with her career, voice and time will certainly benefit many as its inspirational to see someone so young, intelligent, and informed speak about matters near and dear to her heart.
Not only sometimes, but often as she is making this work an integral focus in her life and studies.
