Season 14 of Grey’s Anatomy is going to be a tough one for Dr. Owen Hunt. With the return of his presumed-dead sister and Dr. Teddy Altman, not to mention his confusing relationship with Amelia, how is Owen going to get through this difficult year?
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Kevin McKidd says that Dr. Hunt feels guilty when his sister Megan (Abigail Spencer) returns after being held by militants for ten years.
“He dropped the ball on that day when his sister disappeared, so yeah, he definitely feels a lot of personal guilt, even though other things were at play. He as a protective brother is wracked with guilt,” says the Grey’s Anatomy star.
He says the first two episodes of the season will show how his guilt connects to Megan’s state of mind after returning from Iraq, and that it is unexpected and funny.
McKidd also reveals that Hunt and Riggs’ relationship starts to heal with Megan’s return, and a lot more peace and harmony will exist between them.
As far as Hunt’s relationship with Amelia, there are a lot of issues for the couple to deal with even though she was there for him during a dark time, and his family is quick to notice. Hunt starts to question things because of the challenges Amelia’s presence brings.
First off, there is the fact that the couple is barely speaking, which means Owen has no idea his wife has a brain tumor.
Then there’s the fact that Amelia doesn’t want kids, and Owen wants to be a dad more than anything. It seems like this marriage is close to failing.
Then there is the return of Dr. Teddy Altman (Kim Raver). Hunt immediately runs to her for support after the emotional turmoil brought about by his sister’s return, and it will only be a matter of time before the two end up together.
Teddy is there for Owen when he suffers a panic attack about his sister’s surgeries, and by the end of the premiere, they shared a kiss that shows they are both ready to be more than friends. However, there is a possibility that Teddy is Owen’s source of comfort and he is confused by all of the things going on his life.
One thing is for sure, watching the two of them fall in love this season would make many fans very happy.
