In accordance with the women who have been publically denouncing the sexual misconduct of powerful men, Grey’s Anatomy star Ellen Pompeo took to Twitter to condemn Oscar-winning director Woody Allen. Allen married the adopted daughter of former partner Mia Farrow after also being accused of sexually assaulting Dylan Farrow, Mia’s biological daughter.
Pompeo followed suit in questioning notable actresses such as Kate Winslet, Cate Blanchett and Blake Lively for working with Allen and starring in some of his most notable recent films. Pompeo says she is positively “shocked” that some of these notable women would work with someone who has that type of track record.
To Allen apologists, Pompeo says that its very clear the man married someone who was in a daughter role, even if they aren’t blood-related, and he knew and raised her during at least part of her childhood. Pompeo also thinks it is ridiculous to pick and choose who faces real and necessary consequences for such behavior. She thinks separating the art from the person sounds more like “ducking predators and chasing trophies… it’s WEAK AF.”
You know what I call that?? Ducking predators and chasing trophies…it’s WEAK AF https://t.co/H74knLv4B1

Though he has never formally been charged with a sex crime and denies Dylan Farrow’s claims of sexual abuse, many aren’t convinced given how preoccupation and “obsession” with young ingenues in his films. He continues to defend his relationship with his wife who he’s been married to since 1997.
As recently as this week, a journalist was able to get access to over 56 boxes of archived notes by the filmmaker. After studying them for a good length of time he wrote and published an article in The Washington Post claiming that what he read and researched verified unequivocally that Allen is “obsessed with teenage girls” and that his musings were also laced with deep misogyny.
So while some would say that the art a person creates shouldn’t necessarily be tied to the person, when opportunity, praise, and accolades are the end result, it’s simply applauding an individual who has used their power in a harmful and detrimental way.
