Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) won’t be looking for love when Grey’s Anatomy returns for Season 15. Although ABC is infusing plenty of love in this year’s lineup, Pompeo’s character will be staying out of the dating pool in the near future. What will Meredith be doing instead of finding love?
Channing Dungey, the president of entertainment for ABC, recently revealed that Meredith’s storyline is going to shift next season. Instead of finding romance, Meredith will be focusing on being a single mom and expanding her career in the medical field. That doesn’t mean Meredith won’t ever find love, but she’s going to shift her priorities for at least one season.
“Ellen has spoken very loudly about how she doesn’t want all of Meredith’s adventures to be romantic ones,” Dungey explained.

According to TV Line, Dungey was alluding to Pompeo’s comments earlier this year when she criticized the network for trying to give Meredith a romantic interest so quickly after Patrick Dempsey left the show. As fans will recall, Meredith almost got with Martin Henderson’s character, Nathan, last season.
Prior to filming, producers sent Pompeo a list of actors they were considering for Dempsey’s replacement while she was vacationing in Italy. Pompeo felt as though they were trying to rush her character into another romance instead of going in a different direction.
That said, Dungey did not say that Meredith will never find love again. In fact, she assured fans that Meredith will eventually have a romantic interest on the show but only when the timing is right. Until then, Meredith’s story arc will focus more on her career as a surgeon and raising her children. Unfortunately, that means Scott Speedman’s Dr. Nick Marsh will not be in the running to become Meredith’s new man.

Apart from Meredith, fans will be introduced to a number of new characters next season. This includes Christ Carmack, who will be playing an orthopedic surgeon who is called “Ortho God.” Carmack is best known for his role as Will Lexington on ABC’s hit singing drama, Nashville, which is wrapping up its final season this month.
Although he won’t be going after Meredith, Carmack’s character is expected to be a new romantic interest for other doctors at Grey Sloan Memorial. Whether or not his character becomes a regular on the show is yet to be seen.
ABC has not announced when the new season of Grey’s Anatomy will premiere.
