Grey’s Anatomy just aired its mid-season finale, but fans will have to wait a few months before the medical drama returns to wrap up Season 15. ABC just announced its winter lineup and our favorite doctors at Grey Sloan Memorial will not be back in action until mid-January. That is a two-month wait before we get any resolution.
Season 15 of Grey’s Anatomy will officially return in January (presumably the 17th or 24th). Just about all of Shonda Rhimes’ shows are starting later than usual, and it is apparently by design.

According to Romper, the Grey’s Anatomy creator gets to choose when her shows will return and has picked mid-January for the majority of them. Station 19 and How to Get Away With Murder, which also aired their mid-season finales, are also set to return near the end of January. That means fans of Shondaland will have a painfully long wait until their favorite shows return to ABC.
The mid-season finale featured quite the cliffhanger, as per usual. The episode ended with Owen (Kevin McKidd), Teddy (Kim Raver), and Amelia (Caterina Scorsone) stuck in an elevator shortly after Owen learned that Teddy is pregnant with his child. Talk about a mess.

Meredith’s (Ellen Pompeo) love life, meanwhile, really heated up this episode. After agreeing to finally go on a date with Linc (Chris Carmack), DeLuca (Giacomo Gianniotti) told Meredith that he wants to throw his hat in the ring. The two found themselves stuck in an elevator while on their way to work on a patient in the OR, leaving fans to wait until the second half of Season 15 to see how that pans out.
While we wait for Grey’s Anatomy to return, ABC is planning on filling the Thursday night time slot with a slew of holiday shows. The holiday programming will not replace Grey’s Anatomy, but it might help the time pass a little fast. At least we can always hope it does.
