Gigi Hadid might be lying about her weight loss, both critics and fans believe
Recently, the model shared that her drastic weight drop was caused by a thyroid disease. However, specialists say that doesn’t make any sense because the illness she is talking about usually causes weight gain.
In an interview for Elle Magazine, the 21-year-old runway model says she’s been struggling with her thyroid illness for over two years. According to her, the medication that she takes is what caused the weight loss.
“My metabolism actually changed like crazy this year. I have Hashimoto’s disease. It’s a thyroid disease, and it’s now been two years since taking the medication for it, so for the VS show I didn’t want to lose any more weight, I just want to have muscles in the right place, and if my butt can get a little perkier, then that’s good,” stated the model.
At the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show in Paris, Gigi looked obviously a lot slimmer and fans immediately noticed the difference. Back in September the model received criticism for being ‘overweight’ and maybe that affected her and made her choose to diet more.
However, Gigi says she is not denying herself any delicious food but fans and critics alike tend to believe the model is lying. Medical experts say that Hashimoto’s disease causes hypothyroidism, which leads to weight gain while Graves’ disease causes hyperthyroidism, which causes weight loss. If Gigi is telling the truth, then her condition would cause her to gain weight rather than lose it.
People seem to believe that she lost weight because she was scared that she might be shunned form modeling after her body weight increased. She might have been pressured to lose weight after being body-shamed on the runway last year.
