During George Clooney’s appearence at the Variety Power Of Women event – sponsored by Audi – at the Four Season Hotels, George introduced himself in an ingenious way. On the 12th of October, the From Dusk Till Dawn alum joked, “I’m George. I’m Amal Clooney’s husband, I can read this room.”
George’s comments were funny to the audience for a couple of different reasons. One, it highlights the way in which women have been thought of as just a man’s wife historically and also recognizes the kind of room he’s in and for what purpose the event was created: to recognize the rights and accomplishments of women.
It was undoubtedly charming, one of the main reasons why George has managed to be so successful over the years. In addition to his work ethic, and probably a stroke of luck, George knows how to work a room.
In 2015, Golden Globe host, Tina Fey, made fun of the iconic actor, stating that he married Amal Almuddin this year, pointing to Amal’s reputation as a human rights attorney, which is arguably more impressive.
In case you didn’t know, Amal worked on the infamous Enron case, and was also an adviser to Kofi Annan regarding Syria. Moreover, the UN Commission selected her and two other people to oversee the violations of war on the Gaza Strip.
Unfortunately, Amal wasn’t in attendance for the Variety event. She had to deliver a speech at the Pennsylvania Conference for Women, 2018, which you can see a screenshot for above.
George was there to present an award to Emma Gonzalez for her activism regarding gun control, after the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School incident, that left 17 students and staff members dead.
As fans of the couple know, they’re arguably one of the more popular Hollywood couples right now, following their engagement after six months of dating in April 2014.
They got married in September of the same year, and welcomed twins named Alexander and Ella in June of 2017. Since then, it’s been happily ever after.
