There might be a new power couple in town when Game of Thrones returns next year. Maisie Williams, who plays Arya Stark on the hit series, recently teased that two of the show’s biggest villains could team up in the final season to take down Jon Snow (Kit Harington) and Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke).
Williams opened up about her thoughts on the final season during an interview with BBC Radio 1. The actress dodged most of the spoiler questions, but she did dish out a potential secret on Season 8. When asked about Cersei Lannister making an alliance with the Night King, Williams thought they would make the perfect power couple and could rival Jon and Daenerys.
“Oh I have seen those picture,” Williams said, referencing fan photos of Cersei and the Night King together. “What a power couple.”

The idea of Cersei and the Night King joining forces started when she betrayed Jon and Daenerys at the end of Season 7. In the final episode, Cersei said she would fight alongside Jon and Daenerys against the Night King and the undead army, but secretly plotted to overthrown them behind their backs. With the Night King finally making it beyond the Wall in the Season 7 finale, teaming up with Cersei would certainly give him the upper hand.
Of course, with an undead army – including a zombie dragon – at his back, it’s not like the Night King needs any help conquering Westeros. He also hasn’t made any alliance up to this point.

That said, some fans are theorizing that avoiding the Night King and his army might be the ticket to victory for Jon and Danny.
One fan theory argues that the Night King cannot pass over water and therefore has no way to get beyond Westeros. If that is true, then it is possible that Jon and Danny could take their armies and flee the country, waiting the Night King out until his army wastes away.

If that happens, then there is a good chance that Cersei would be left alone to fend for herself in King’s Landing, which would not bode well for her.
Like many of her co-stars, Williams finished filming her scenes for Season 8 a few months ago. Production for the final season, however, is still ongoing. HBO has not announced an official premiere date for the new season of Game of Thrones, but it is expected to air sometime in early 2019.
