We’re still a year away from the Season 8 premiere of Game of Thrones, but that hasn’t stopped fans from guessing who will sit on the Iron Throne once everything is said and done. Jon Snow (Kit Harington) and Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke) are the clear frontrunners for ruling Westeros after the Night King (Vladimir Furdik) is defeated, but did Rob Stark reveal Jon’s true fate before his death at the Red Wedding?
A user on Reddit (The-Ginger-Cow) wrote an interesting theory on how Rob’s fate could provide clues about what will happen to Jon. Per the theory, Rob ultimately died because he made an oath he could not keep with Walder Frey.

Once he failed to marry one of Frey’s daughter’s, Frey betrayed him at the Red Wedding. Rob lost his life because he made an oath to someone he didn’t trust just to obtain a short-term goal (getting across the river to fight the Lannisters).
Jon had a similar opportunity to pledge an oath he did not intend to keep last season. As fans will recall, Cersei (Lena Headey) tried to get Jon to swear allegiance to her when everyone met about the White Walkers in King’s Landing.
Unlike Rob, Jon did not pledge his loyalty to Cersei and instead revealed that he had already swore an oath Daenerys. According to Express, the theory argues that Jon’s decision will save him from meeting a similar fate as Rob.
"All my dreams are of the crypts, of the stone kings on their thrones. Sometimes I hear Robb's voice, and my father's, as if they were at a feast. But there's a wall between us, and I know that no place has been set for me."

“I believe that Jon will survive because he’s avoided one of the biggest mistakes his cousin made,” the Reddit user explained.
Of course, we won’t know for sure what happens until Game of Thrones finally returns to HBO next year. Although Jon is in one of the best positions to rule Westeros, he has a lot of enemies to defeat before that happens.

Not only does he have to worry about Cersei betraying him, but he’s about to go to war against an undead army lead by the Night King, who acquired a dragon in the Season 7 finale. We can only hope that Jon and Daenerys make it out alive, but there’s really no telling how George R.R. Martin plans on ending the series.
HBO has not announced when Season 8 of Game of Thrones will premiere next year. Production is currently wrapping up for the final season and many cast members have already finished filming their final scenes.
