There was plenty of bloodshed in Season 7 of Game of Thrones, but fans can rest assured that at least one fan favorite will return for the final season. Although some fans thought that Tormund Giantsbane and Beric Dondarrion died when the Night King took out the Wall, we can confirm that both men made it out of the battle alive and well.
Kristofer Hivju was recently spotted filming for Season 8 in Belfast, which all but confirms that he will appear as Tormund in Season 8 of Game of Thrones. Tormund was last seen in the Season 7 finale, titled “The Dragon and the Wolf.”
The episode, which was nominated for an Emmy for Outstanding Writing for a Drama Series, featured Tormund and Beric running for their lives as the Wall collapsed around them. Most fans thoughts that Tormund and Beric perished in the one-sided fight, but it looks like we can all rest assured knowing they will be back — at least for now.
Apart from Tormund and Beric, the series is not taking fans to Braavos in Season 8. According to Uproxx, Mark Gatiss, who appeared as Tycho Nestoris of the Iron Bank, recently revealed that he was not a part of the final season.
“I’m not in it, so I guess I survive. Although they might just mention offhand that I’ve had my head bitten off by a dragon off-screen or something,” Gattis explained.
Gatiss has appeared on the show for the past three seasons. His character was last seen in Season 7 making a deal with Cersei Lannister about buying the services of the Golden Company. Cersei was planning on using the army to help defeat Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke) once the war with the Night King was over.

But with Gatiss not appearing in the final season, there is a chance that Cersei’s plan fell through and she’ll be facing whatever is left of Daenerys and Jon Snow’s (Kit Harington) forces alone.
This doesn’t bode well for Cersei’s chances of ruling Westeros. It also doesn’t mean that Jon and Daenerys will come out of top, but it’s definitely a step in the right direction. At the very least, it’s great to know that Tormund and Beric made it out alive for at least a few episodes into the final season.
HBO is expected to premiere Season 8 of Game of Thrones sometime in early 2019.
