Hello queen Gabourey Sidibe! In a new series of pictures that have surfaced online, the Empire actress embodies a gorgeous African royal in a deep blue dress, perfect makeup, and stylish afro that comes with a fascinating story behind it.
Miss Sidibe, 34, who is famous for both her talent and her sense of humor, confessed that the afro is a wig that was used in her hit series, Empire, and she was advised by legendary actress Alfre Woodard to steal it, and she did just that.
Via the same caption, the filmmaker went on to explain that she plans to celebrate Black History Month throughout March because she can.
The activist went on to say: “Oh. Y’all thought I was gon stop celebrating Black History Month just cuz it’s March now? Y’all KNOW I’m extra.”
She continued: “I wore a dress by @madam_wokie with jewels by @nashellejewelry at @essence’s #blackwomeninhollywood brunch! My hair was a mix of an Afro wig I stole from the set of Empire because Alfre Woodard told me to, along with some inspiration from my friend @tarhondajay and it was made possible by my hair stylist. The makeup with this dramatic eye and purple lip, is the art of @tobyfleischman and my stylist helped me put this entire look together, and it’s my favorite look, possibly ever!”
One fan called her an African princess because her father is Senegalese.
The person wrote: “Hello, African princess. When Alfre Woodard tells you to do something, ya damn well better do it! She’s a boss!! It def adds to the look!I think you look fantastic I love the dress and then natural hair looks great on you to do your thing girl. I also wanted to tell you that you ‘re beautiful no matter the size, but now you’re healthier, and I’m thankful for that. I’m sure you’re full of enough energy to continue to grace with your beautiful presence on screen! So gifted! Love to see you happy!”
A supporter, who is not crazy about the hairdo, shared: “Mmmmm she’s pretty for sure but that hair style Issa no for me fam. No, not like braided like that. She could’ve had the braids finessed a little more. Anyway, you been killing it forever…but I’m gone have to say this blue to you is my fave!!!! *goes to buy more blue lol.”
