During a brand new interview, Francia Raisa decided to show the audience her surgery scars that resulted from her donating a kidney to her dear friend Selena Gomez and therefore saving her life.
Not only that, but the Grown-ish actress also revealed that donating the organ to Gomez was not at all what she expected.
‘I felt a lot of peace throughout the whole thing, ironically. There were times that I did panic,’ she admitted.
According to her, she was all for getting tested to see if she was compatible ‘but [she] wasn’t educated on kidney surgery.’
Raisa did know she would be a match but only realized the extent of such a procedure after talking to her social worker.
‘She told me, ‘It is going to be hard. The recipient’s going to glow, and she is going to recover a lot faster than the donor because she is getting something she needs. You are losing something you do not need to lose. It is going to be hard.’ And it was very hard.’
She went on to say that ‘Selena and I both went through a depression. That was not expected.’
However, despite all of the hard times that followed the surgery, she is happier than ever today.
‘Your scars do not define you. It is a part of your story, and it is a part of the story that makes you special and you different,’ the actress wisely said.
Back in October of last year, Selena also opened up about the surgery.
‘My kidneys were done. That was it, and I did not want to ask a single person in my life… and [Raisa] volunteered and did it. She did [save my life]. As soon as I got the kidney, my arthritis went away. My lupus is at a three-to-five percent chance it will ever come back. My blood pressure is much better. My energy and my life have been better,’ Selena revealed.
