Another day, another Derick Dillard and Jill Duggar controversy. For two people who are no longer reality TV stars, they sure know how to get attention. This time around, fans are accusing Duggar of being a hypocrite and using her Latina goddaughter to prove she is not a racist. This all comes after Dillard posted a picture of the couple’s 3-year-old son Israel playing with blocks and added the caption, “Israel helping Trump build ‘The Wall.’ LOL!”
Just a few days later, Duggar posted photos from her goddaughter Aivah’s Kindergarten graduation, and she added the hashtag #proudmadrina, which is Spanish for godmother. According to In Touch Weekly, because the family has Latina friends, fans found their support of the wall to be hypocritical.
“You’re with Latinos but you want that wall to be built… y’all funny as f–k?,” wrote an angry commenter. Another agreed, saying, “Funny how Derick taught Izzy all about the Wall to keep people out, and here you are showcasing your ‘brown’ friends. Oh the hypocrisy.”
Other commenters seemed annoyed that Duggar was apparently showing off the toddler like a prop to prove the point that she isn’t a bigot.
People were just as mad when Dillard posted his wall photo, and they immediately called him out. Most of the commenters were shocked that someone who preaches love is so racist. They also said Dillard’s remarks reflect poorly on him and his family.
There were even some who said they would stop following him because of his racism.
Dillard has long been outspoken when it comes to his extremely conservative social views. TLC fired him from Counting On last year after he slammed transgender teen Jazz Jennings, who also has a show on the network.
Then last month, he called Nate Berkus and Jeremiah Brent’s family a “travesty” after TLC tweeted a promo for their show Nate & Jeremiah by Design.
But, Duggar has always supported her husband, mostly by just keeping quiet about her political views. However, the Duggar family has not made their political affiliations a secret. Jill’s older brother Josh worked as a lobbyist for the uber-conservative Family Research Council, which is a non-profit organization dedicated to “family values.”
The family also endorsed friend Mike Huckabee for President in both 2008 and 2012. Jill’s dad Jim Bob also served as a member of the Arkansas House of Representatives as a Republican.
Dillard has also been a vocal supporter of President Trump, even though he has said he doesn’t condone Trump’s lifestyle. But, he agreed with more of his policies than Clinton’s during the 2016 election.
A new season of Counting On – the second without Jill Duggar – will be coming to TLC later this summer.
