The Duggar children continue to rebel against their strict family rules and their uber-conservative upbringing in a variety of ways, and recently former Counting On star Jill Duggar took her defiance of the family dress code to another level. For the first time ever, fans have actually seen a Duggar female wearing a bathing suit.
“Nothing says summer like a relaxing family day at the pool! What do you enjoy doing with friends & family on summer days?” the second-oldest Duggar daughter captioned a photo she posted on Instagram last weekend.
In the pic, Duggar posed in a pool with her husband, Derick Dillard, and their two sons Israel and Samuel. And, fans can see her exposed shoulders and arms in her blue one-piece.
Until now, Duggar swimming attire has been extremely conservative – especially for the females. They usually wear t-shirts and shorts when enjoying the water. The Hollywood Gossip hilariously described Duggar female swimwear as “the leotard-like getups those old-timey mustachioed barbell guys used to sport way back in the ‘20s… then throw a t-shirt on top.”
That’s an extremely accurate description of Duggar beachwear, so the fact that Jill actually dressed like she was going swimming delighted fans. One even requested Jill to share her “journey from skirts and wholesome wear swimsuits to pants and sleeveless suits.”
Jill’s older sister Jana once explained on Counting On that the reason they wear modest swimsuits is because they always want to be modest. She added that a lot of swimwear these days don’t cover parts that it should.
There could be a bit of an agenda behind Jill’s pool post. Recently some fans accused her of keeping her kids indoors and not letting them play in the sun because they appeared “sickly” and pale in a picture. This could have been an attempt at responding to those accusations, and while doing that Jill opted to show some skin.
In addition to a family day at the pool, Jill also had some fun this week by going out to the movies with Dillard – sans kids – to celebrate their 4th wedding anniversary. The couple posted a pic of themselves enjoying a big bucket of popcorn and a soda while watching Incredibles 2.
But, of course, the haters showed up and called the couple out for going to the movie without their boys. Essentially, they were giving them a hard time for going to a kid’s movie without their kids. Some fans told the haters to “get a life,” and others said it was smart to watch the movie first to make sure it was appropriate for their boys.
New episodes of Counting On – sans Jill Duggar – will return to TLC on July 30th.
