Contestants on The Voice are currently in the middle of the battle rounds of the popular reality singing competition, but a new report has surfaced that claims those battles are nothing compared to what is going on backstage between coaches Blake Shelton and Kelly Clarkson. Could the former besties be feuding over this season’s top country contestant?
Radar Online is reporting that longtime coach Shelton and newbie judge Clarkson went at it on camera over who is going to get the biggest country star in season 14, but when the cameras stopped rolling, the fighting wasn’t over.
Clarkson – whose mother-in-law is country legend Reba McEntire – is in her first season on The Voice, and she hasn’t been shy about going up against Shelton, Adam Levine, and Alicia Keys to nab the best talent on the show.
Prior to this season starting, Shelton made it clear that even though he and Clarkson are friends, when it comes to The Voice, things are different.
“Make no mistake, Kelly is my friend. But when she’s on this show, she is my enemy,” said Shelton.
That became crystal clear this week when Shelton and Clarkson went at it over two popular country music contestants, Wilkes, 33, and Jordan Kirkdorffer, 28, who were competing with the Chris Stapleton song Nobody to Blame. Shelton figured out that Clarkson wanted to steal one of his top team members, and he told her “This is not a dating game. This is The Voice.”
And the bickering got worse off-camera, with an insider saying the two are like brother and sister. Apparently, they fight and scream at each other, but, then they get over it.
The source goes on to reveal that since Shelton and Clarkson are basically around each other all the time right now, it has gotten to the point that the 35-year-old just walks away because winning an argument with Shelton is not going to happen because he is always right.
The two reportedly fight over things as trivial as the size of a dressing room, and some believe it’s because Shelton is not thrilled about the huge amount of money Clarkson is getting this season.
Clarkson inked a big deal to join The Voice this season, and it has turned out to be a genius move. Ratings this season have been through the roof, and the show is destroying its competition – the American Idol reboot.
Watch Kelly Clarkson and Blake Shelton battle it out on new episodes of The Voice, Monday and Tuesday nights on NBC.
