Did Cardi B throw shade at Nicki Minaj following her bitter tweets about not taking the number one spot? Even though the 2018 MTV Video Music Awards went off without a hitch this year, many fans of the rapper are considering the possibility that the “Bodak Yellow” star passive-aggressively mocked the Queen rapper.
In case you missed the opening ceremony, Cardi B kicked off the introduction with a joke involving a fake baby bundle. However, her comments afterward are what sparked the ire of Nicki fans.
Cardi said to the crowd, “Welcome to New York, everybody – I am the empress.” As you may know, Nicki’s latest record was aptly titled, Queen, so fans think Cardi calling herself an “empress” was a subtle shot at Minaj.
In the past, people have believed that Cardi and Nicki were feuding, but other reports, including a recent interview, have shown that the two barely even know each other.
Additionally, the paparazzi photographed them talking while at the 2018 Met Gala. On one of Nicki’s new songs, “Ganja Burns,” fans think that she intentionally mispronounced the word, “body,” as “Bardi,” in reference to Cardi B.
As it was previously reported, during an interview on Apples Beats 1 Radio, the rapper stated that she “didn’t know Cardi” and she had a problem, but she guesses they do, considering everyone is saying so.
Minaj stated, “you gotta have thick skin. People talk s**t about me all of the time.” Moreover, another new song features Cardi saying she’s the “queen of s**t talking,” leading some to believe they really are feuding.
Although, let’s be honest, the lyrics are about as vague as they get, and could be literally about anyone. Where Minaj wasn’t vague, however, was when she claimed Travis Scott’s latest record, Astroworld, was number 1 only because of his relationship with Kylie Jenner, among other reasons.
