The first look at the new Woody Allen film Wonder Wheel has been released and early reception to the movie is good. Allen serves as writer and director for the Amazon Studios picture that stars Kate Winslet, Justin Timberlake, Juno Temple, Debi Mazar, and Jim Belushi.
Set in New York’s Coney Island in the fifties, Wonder Wheel takes place at the infamous amusement park and tells the story of Kate Winslet’s character Ginny who falls for Mickey Rubin, a lifeguard played by Justin Timberlake.
Things would be troublesome enough for Ginny who is a middle-aged woman married to Humpty, a carousel operator played by Jim Belushi, to get Mickey’s attention, but when Humpty’s younger daughter Carolina, played by Juno Temple, arrives and sets her sight on Mickey, things really get complicated.
Wonder Wheel will close the 55th New York Film Festival on October 14, 2017, before making its December 1, 2017, release on Amazon. December 1 is also Woody Allen’s 82nd birthday.

Amazon Studios financed the film with an approximate budget of $25 million. This marks a new shift in Amazon’s programming that has been producing award-winning television series such as Transparent and Mozart in the Jungle and is focusing heavily on original movies.
Past Amazon Studios films include the award-winning The Big Sick and Manchester by the Sea.
Woody Allen has won four Oscars in his lifetime and there is the expectation that Wonder Wheel will be a huge success.
Kate Winslet is also an Oscar-winning actress who is known to bring true depth and a sense of genuine realness to her characters.
We’re sure to get an emotional and volatile performance from Kate as she explores the facets of Ginny, a former actress turned waitress working in a clam house, and apparently bored of where life has brought her.
While Justin Timberlake has been nominated for an Oscar for his song “Can’t Stop The Feeling” for the movie Trolls, Justin has proved he has the acting chops to be in a Woody Allen film.
Justin Timberlake won critical praise and multiple nominations for his work in The Social Network. Working with Woody Allen may signify a new phase in Timberlake’s acting career.
