Donald Trump’s Christmas celebrations with First Lady Melania Trump weren’t so festive this year. Christmas is usually a time when presidents can relax and enjoy some family time, but Donald’s holiday photo with Melania looked anything but fun. Are the rumors that Melania is miserable in her marriage true?
According to Life & Style, Melania shared a photo on Christmas of her and Donald making a few phone calls. With a colorful Christmas tree as a backdrop, the couple had their backs turned to each other in the pic, which naturally sparked speculation that they weren’t even happy on Christmas. Despite the sad tone of the photo, Melania tried to assure everyone that Christmas was a blast at the Trump house this year.
“@POTUS and I had fun helping children track #Santa tonight,” she wrote alongside the pic. “Wishing everyone a wonderful #ChristmasEve.”
The photo naturally drew a lot of mixed reactions from fans online. Some people pointed out that the president and his wife looked absolutely miserable in the pic while others took some time to examine their body language.
Overall, many people didn’t think the couple had a fun time over the holidays. While it’s hard to tell if Melania was really feeling depressed in the photo, this isn’t the first time her marriage has come under fire this year. In fact, one author believes that Melania is a much happier person whenever Donald hits the road.
Newsweek reports that author Kate Andersen Brower, who wrote the book, First Women: The Grace and Power of America’s Modern First Ladies, claims that Melania is more comfortable whenever Donald is not around. Brower’s book highlights how Melania has frequently appeared uneasy in public with Donald, including on their recent trip across Southeast Asia.
When the pair visited Japan, for instance, Melania looked more like herself when she left Donald’s side and spent some time at a school. In fact, the First Lady looked happy when she interacted with the kids, in contrast to her typical somber demeanor whenever Donald is in the room.
There are also rumors that Melania does not enjoy fulfilling her duties as First Lady. Melania did not move in with Donald at White House the beginning of the year. Instead, she spent close to five months in New York watching her son Barron as he finished his semester at school.
During that time, Melania was not performing her role as First Lady, which fueled rumors that she isn’t comfortable being in the spotlight. Since then, Melania has stepped into her new role in the White House and has done a great job.
According to Newsweek, recent polling suggests that Melania is way more popular in the public’s eye than her husband. In a new Gallup Poll, Melania garnered around 54 percent in the favorable rating while her husband is sitting at a lowly 44 percent.
She hasn’t, however, shook the rumors that her marriage is slowly falling apart around her. Despite the mounting evidence, Melania Trump and The President continue to dodge questions about their marriage.
