If there’s one thing that’s for sure, when you’re in the public’s eye like the Kardashians, you never avoid scrutiny. Most recently, Kylie found herself in trouble again with social media commenters following the release of some of her makeup titles.
Her newest products have names like, Barely Legal, X-Rated, Virginity, Hot and Bothered, and Hopeless Romantic. Fans and some haters came out in criticism of the Keeping Up With The Kardashians star for the hyper-sexualization of the names.
The problem, according to those on social media, is that young girls, as young as 14-years-old, will rush out to buy items with overly sexual names.
It sets a dangerous precedent for women, one that’s subjecting them to beauty standards and harmful gender stereotypes, while at the same time commodifying women’s collective sexuality, and even glorifying potentially damaging relationships like much older men with teenage girls.
@KylieJenner decided to name her cheap blushes with an even cheaper names. All 14 yr Olds moms will be racing to buy virginity, hot n bothered & barely legal.
Seems their named after her life, underage dating a 20 something dad. Bravo @KrisJenner

One person wrote, “why would you give names like that to products which are sold to little girls. They’re hyper-sexual and harmful to the teenagers who buy them. It sends the wrong message.”
Another follower stated, “@KylieJenner, it’s not a good idea to have names like this because you have 12-year-old fans who don’t need to be exposed to titles like this.”
Additionally, some fans got personal when they criticized the fact that Kylie dated a much older man, Tyga, who was in his late 20’s when Kylie was just a teenager.
However, on the other side of the equation, one has to understand that sex sells and using sexuality to market products is Business 101. The truth is: if the products weren’t marketed using salacious titles, the appeal of them would be gone to young girls, and they would no longer be attractive as an item.
