Eric Ripert, the friend of Anthony Bourdain, had a good weekend three weeks after he discovered Anthony’s dead body on the 8th of June. On Saturday, Eric shared a selfie on Instagram while he was celebrating France’s win against Argentina at the World Cup this year.
Eric wrote, “celebrating France with a cigar and rosé,” as he posed by his pool. As it was previously reported, the celebrity chef died in a suicide confirmed by the French police.
Ripert found Anthony’s body in his luxury hotel room in France, in the middle of filming an episode of Anthony Bourdain: Parts Unknown, distributed by CNN.
In a statement to People Magazine, Ripert said that “Anthony was a dear friend.” The chef was an “exceptional human being,” as well as “inspiring and generous.”
A few days before Bourdain passed away, he and Ripert rode through France on a bike together and went to a restaurant in Wistub La Petite Venise. They both posed for photographs along with the chef, Alexis Schonstein.
Ripert explained previously why he and Bourdain were such good friends. Because of Anthony’s busy schedule, sometimes he needed silence, and Ripert was comfortable with not talking.
They get along so great that sometimes they “don’t speak at all and we’ll be happy together.” According to Ripert, Bourdain “likes that a lot,” because shooting is a lot of work, and sometimes he just needed rest.
It also helps that they didn’t see each other very often, so when they did, it was after a long break and they get along that much better. Nevertheless, the news of his death was incredibly sad for many Hollywood celebrities.
Twitter was filled with tweets of commemoration when CNN confirmed he had died. Bourdain’s employer published a statement after multiple publications reported the news, as did Asia Argento, his girlfriend before he passed away.
