After Disney announced that they are going to make the most famous princess stories and animations into brand new live action movies they started the project with the well known and loved ‘Cinderella’ story which was a real success. And although nowadays people are talking about an upcoming ‘Mulan’ movie, the next one on the list is ‘Beauty and the Beast’ coming up in 2017.
If you are not living under a rock you should probably know by now that the beloved Belle is going to be played by none other than former Harry Potter star, Emma Watson. I could not have thought of a better Beauty, great job casting her Disney!
What is even more exciting is the fact that, according to Emma’s interview with ‘Entertainment Weekly’, Belle is going to be driven by a whole new back-story that we never heard before and it makes the character ten times more interesting.
In the original animation, Belle is the daughter of an inventor and spends most of her time reading books. However, it seems like Emma wanted to move away from this image and make Belle more bad-ass. And the directors gave her creative freedom to give whatever life to her character. In the upcoming film, Belle is the one doing the inventing, while her father travels the world making music boxes.
The 26 year old actress said:
“In the animated movie, it’s her father who is the inventor, and we actually co-opted that for Belle… I was like, ‘Well, there was never very much information or detail at the beginning of the story as to why Belle didn’t fit in, other than she liked books. Also what is she doing with her time?’ So, we created a backstory for her, which was that she had invented a kind of washing machine, so that, instead of doing laundry, she could sit and use that time to read instead. So, yeah, we made Belle an inventor.”‘
That makes so much sense! Good Job Emma!
