Despite the fact that Emily Blunt enjoyed a lot playing the classic character, she admits that Mary Poppins is a bit creepy! On Thursday, the actress was on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, and there she talked about her role in Mary Poppins Returns.
It all started when they both looked at the poster for the Disney movie, and Blunt noted how Mary Poppins had a ‘sinister’ twinkle in her eyes.
‘I always thought Mary Poppins seemed a little sinister,’ the host said as the actress went on: ‘Well, I think she is creepy.’
‘She is, because she comes unannounced, takes over the house,’ Colbert added.
Blunt started laughing and joked that ‘Disney right now are just like, ‘Noooooo!’ But I loved doing it, it was just the best. It really was awesome.’
Previously, Blunt opened up about the film some more and also confessed that the iconic flying scene was ‘terrifying.’
But while she thinks Mary Poppins is ‘creepy and terrifying’, Blunt also stars, alongside her husband John Krasinkski in the horror film A Quiet Place, that he directed.
That being said, we’re sure this one is much creepier than Mary Poppins!
‘When he pitched me the one-liner of it because he had been offered it as an actor, I was like, ‘Oh, well that is an amazing idea. You should direct that movie.’ Then he wrote it, and I previously suggested a friend of mine for the film. And then I read his script, and I was like, ‘You need to fire her now. You need to call her and fire her!’’ the actress said about the movie.
Ultimately, she chose to star in it alongside her hubby, and it was for the best as it showcased their great chemistry.
Do you agree that Mary Poppins is ‘creepy?’
