Owning a Tesla Motors car is often a status symbol of the environmentally green jet set in Hollywood. A long roster of stars own the iconic vehicles envisioned by billionaire, and enigmatic genius, Elon Musk. Leonardo DiCaprio, Stephen Spielberg, Ben Afleck, and Demi Moore, are but of few of the well-heeled drivers of these sleek conveyances.
As if owning a Tesla wasn’t privilege enough, if the latest mysterious rumors hold true, soon these stars may have their very own secret passage underneath the congested heart of Los Angeles.
Away from the prying eyes of the public, the glitterati will be able to zoom in relative peace from one end of the passage to the other… Wait, what?! A tunnel underneath LA?
It seems that Musk, a prolific generator of out-of-this-world ideas, has set his sights on a boring project – a tunnel. Yes, as bad as that pun is, it was how Musk announced his intention to circumvent the grid lock of the surface scurrying masses.
Via a Tweet in December, he relayed his frustration with the traffic and was going to “just start digging” and “…it shall be called The Boring Company’”.
Anyone knowledgeable with construction projects in LA, much less in the subterranean depths of the City of Angels, knows that conquering the bureaucracy and permitting is a daunting enough task.
Couple that with engineering a structurally sound conduit 100 feet or more underground, and even the most daring of entrepreneurs would shy away. But then again, anyone who knows Musk, knows that he loves a challenge.
Musk hasn’t said where, precisely, he intends to locate the tunnel, or for whom he intends its use. He did, however, Tweet this morning that he was making “…progress on the digging front” and that he “…would start digging in a month or so.”
Absent any concrete details, this latest project by Musk, especially with his connections in Hollywood and elsewhere, lends itself well to conspiracy fodder. Somewhere, the truth is out there.
