Ellen DeGeneres has broken the record for the most awards received by a single star at People’s Choice Awards on Wednesday night. On the 43rd edition of the awards show, the comedian and TV host took home three more trophies to add to her big collection.
Over the years, her collection grew and now, she has a total of 20 trophies following her wins for Favorite Daytime TV Show Host (“The Ellen DeGeneres Show”), Favorite Comedic Collaboration (“Britney Spears’ Mall Mischief”) and Favorite Animated Movie Voice (“Finding Dory”).
The beloved star was presented with the award by none other than close friend Justin Timberlake. Ellen proceeded to make fun of him as soon as she stepped on stage, telling him that he looked “very under dressed” for such a ceremony night.
Furthermore, she addressed the audience in a speech that showed her gratitude and her rather proud attitude of basically being the most appreciated celebrity by entertainment consumers all over the United States. For someone who has struggled to achieve something in her life despite the barriers of hate, the record beating number shows that not only did she achieve acceptance but also the love and respect of the people.
“This is amazing,” she said to the screaming audience. “17, I get; 18, sure; 19, I can see that; but 20 is outrageous!”
“This is really something that means more to me than [other awards], because it comes from the people. You are the people who are responsible for me being up here.”
As we are already used to, DeGeneres joked around in the speech talking about wishing she ate mashed potatoes more often and that she wishes that animals were organized enough to vote for the show’s awards because she likes animals more than people.
Sadly, the star’s wife, Portia de Rossi was unable to reach the award show in time for the speech because of a traffic jam in Los Angeles.
