During Elizabeth Hurley’s appearence on This Morning recently, the star revealed that one of her closest friends has been dealing with late-stage breast cancer. On Tuesday, Hurley became upset when she talked about her friend, a mother in her late 40’s, who is struggling with cancer.
“I’ve just discovered she found a lump and she didn’t tell everyone,” the actress remarked. According to Elizabeth, her grandmother died of cancer back in 1992, so this issue strikes close to her heart.
“It’s a late-stage breast cancer,” Hurley explained, emphasizing the importance of women seeking treatment and diagnosis before it’s too late. Elizabeth said that it “affects everybody.”
As fans of the actress know, she’s a world ambassador for The Estée Lauder Companies Breast Cancer Foundation, and she frequently asks her friends to get checked.
Hurley admits that she had her first mammogram when she was 40-years-old. “I’ve had many since then.” Following the death of her grandmother, Hurley decided to get actively involved in breast cancer awareness.

Fortunately, technological advancements have granted women the ability to determine if they have cancer at a time when it’s still curable.
However, her grandmother wasn’t so lucky in the 1990’s. The star claims that her grandma likely would’ve been too embarrassed or scared to tell anyone about her problem.
“I feel it could just have been different for her,” Elizabeth added. Like fans of the Austin Powers alum know, Elizabeth has experienced a number of different tragedies in recent years.
Her nephew was tragically stabbed in London one evening earlier in the year, and he almost died from his injuries. London, England, has, unfortunately, seen a sharp rise in knife crime in the last decade.
