During his latest appearance on Ellen DeGeneres’ show, the singer opened up about being snubbed from all the essential categories for the Grammy Awards nominations this year. Last month, when the nominations were announced, fans of Ed Sheeran were ecstatic to learn that he was listed in two huge categories – Pop Solo Performance for his hit Shape of You and Pop Vocal Album for Divide.
Sadly, however, he was left off the list for two other major categories: Song of the Year and Record of the Year.
‘My outlook on it is, it is just – some years you have your year, and some years you do not have your year. And maybe this year is not my year,’ the singer explained.
Of course, it’s important to have your work recognized by such prestigious awards – anyone can agree!
But for Sheeran, the most important is getting people completely hooked on his songs and have them feel things when listening to them.
‘That is where the validation comes from. You actually see genuine people enjoying the songs and stuff like that. I would rather have, a lifetime of people coming up to me, saying like, ‘This song affects me in a positive way, ‘This song was my wedding song,’ ‘This song was my first kiss’ than anything else,’ he told the host.
Do you think Ed Sheeran deserved more recognition at the Grammy Awards this year?
