Last year, former 19 Kids & Counting stars Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar welcomed another child to their family when they became the legal guardians of nephew Tyler Hutchins. And, the results of the state of Arkansas’ annual welfare check reveal that the ten-year-old is doing very well in his new family.
According to Radar Online, Jim Bob and Michelle’s attorney submitted the annual report to the Circuit Court of Benton County, Arkansas, in October 2017.
“The current mental, physical and social condition of the incapacitated person is: Tyler is a happy and healthy very attached and thriving 9-year-old,” the filing read. “Tyler is currently living in Springdale Arkansas with his great aunt and uncle, James R. Duggar and Michelle A. Duggar, as well as their children.”
The report also revealed that Tyler had a savings account with a balance of $2,715.82.

The reality stars first became Tyler’s legal guardians in November 2016 after filing the petition for permission three months earlier. Michelle’s sister Carolyn Hutchins is Tyler’s grandma, and the court awarded her physical control and custody of Tyler back in the summer of 2015. However, a year later she suffered a stroke and could no longer care for her grandson.
Tyler’s mom is Michelle’s niece, Rachel, who is “homeless with no permanent address,” and she is currently unable to “meet Tyler’s health, safety, and other needs.” It is unclear who his father is because Rachel did not list a name on Tyler’s birth certificate.
Now that Michelle is officially the mother of 20, the family pulled out all the stops for the matriarch for their recent Mother’s Day celebration. But, while many of her fans believe the 51-year-old is highly deserving of all her family’s praise, there are also detractors that see her as an enabler and abuser.
It is difficult for many to get past her son Josh’s molestation scandal. Obviously, Michelle was not involved in the sexual abuse of four of her daughters, but she did help her oldest son avoid prosecution. And, many believe that she had the opportunity to put an end to it, but did nothing.
She is also a proponent of the “blanket training” method, which is a technique some parents use to “train” their children to be obedient by putting them on a blanket and physically punishing them if they attempt to move.
Everyone has a different opinion on whether or not Michelle deserves condemnation or emulation, but there is no denying that she is a more complex figure than most fans think.
The Duggar family returns with new episodes of Counting On later this summer on TLC.
