Actress Drew Barrymore is slowly coming back to the limelight. The Culver City native is currently promoting Santa Clarita Diet, a horror-comedy series for Netflix also starring The Girl Next Door actor Timothy Olyphant and Desperate Housewives star Ricardo Chavira. Barrymore will also serve as executive producer on the new show. Barrymore, a mother of two, is opening up about her new life after divorcing art consultant Will Kopelman in 2016. The former couple got married in 2012 and are parents to daughters – 4-year-old Olive Barrymore Kopelman and Frankie Barrymore Kopelman, 2.
The last time Barrymore was out pushing a new project, it was in 2015 with the movie, Miss You Already, which was well received by critics and did poorly at the box office. The Going the Distance actress lost 20 pounds while shooting her new series.
The weight loss came in the middle of the difficult time for the former child star, and she explained how it is all linked to the character she is playing: “It’s attitudinal, it’s empowerment, it’s confidence. It’s all of these things, that’s she’s lost in her life, that I sort of felt like I had lost in my life, and it’s such a blessing to come alive with her. And it really was so positive for me.”
Barrymore is not ready to date despite being in great shape and single. She is still putting the pieces back together after a painful divorce that she was not expecting. The acting sensation is looking at her friends using technology to meet new partners, but she remains skeptical because all of this scares her. She added: “My concern with the dating app is always like am I going to be that person that classically meets a psycho and then I end up murdered that night. So that alone was a turn off.”
The Santa Clarita Diet will be available on February 3.
