A new scandal surrounding Donald Trump broke out in Washington, D.C. The controversial Republican president had the desire to relieve special counsel Robert Mueller of his position as the overseer of the Russia investigation.
Mueller is attempting to answer the following question — did Vladimir Putin and other Russian officials meddle in the 2016 presidential election to help Trump defeat Hillary Clinton?
The episode happened in June, but the presidential wishes were not received well by White House counsel Donald F. McGahn, as he preferred resigning to executing the given orders.
The exchange between the two was confirmed by at least four different staff members of the White House.
All of the sources for the story wanted to keep their identities private, as they preferred anonymity when talking about the ongoing investigation.
According to Trump, three significant conflicts of interest make it impossible for Mueller to be unbiased during the process.
The first one is a previous controversial argument on financial matters at the Trump National Golf Course in Sterling, Virginia.
Because of the dispute, Mueller was forced to retreat and withdrew his membership.
This is Fred Guttenberg. His 14 year old daughter Jaime was killed last week at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School. She loved to dance and her favorite color was orange. She deserved better. They all did. @marcorubiofla Marco Rubio is and always has been a coward and is bought and paid for by the NRA. #neveragain #marchforourlives #marjorystonemandouglas #votethemout #nra #marcorubio #cnn #schoolshooting #demandaction #donaldtrump @realdonaldtrump @nationalrifleassociation #dosomething #jaimeguttenberg #commonsensegunlaws @everytown @marchforourlives Repost @melly_melz80
Another reason was the fact that Mueller was seen as a possible candidate for the position of FBI director just before becoming a special counsel.
It is also a well-known fact that Mueller used to work for the law firm which represented Jared Kushner, Trump’s son-in-law.
The president denied that anything of that sort had happened, dismissing the whole story as fake rumors invented by the left-wing media.
This photo of Trump’s notes captures his inability to express empathy. Trump held a listening session today with students from Parkland High featuring a range of views on how to combat gun violence in schools. And while Trump's at-times-meandering comments about arming teachers will certainly raise eyebrows, for the most part he did listen on how to combat gun violence in schools. After what appear to be four questions he planned to ask those assembled, No. 5 is an apparent reminder for Trump to tell people, “I hear you.” Even No. 1 is basically a reminder that Trump should empathize. “What would you most want me to know about your experience?” the card reads. So two-fifths of this card is dedicated to making sure the president of the United States assured those assembled that he was interested in what they had to say and their vantage points. That's at once pretty striking for a president and not at all striking for Trump. Through tragedy after tragedy, empathy has been the quality clearly missing from Trump's reactions. He has focused on first-responders rather than victims. He has joked around when he probably should have been somber. He has attacked a political leader who wasn't appreciative enough. Through it all, it's been clear that expressing that he feels others' pain just isn't his strength. Although the firing of Mueller did not happen, after all, multiple politicians deemed Trump’s decision outrageous and have taken to social media to call him irresponsible and an abuser of power.
Trump has stated on more than one occasion previously that he is very eager to end the investigation.
POTUS is also getting bashed for the manner he is mishandling last week’s horrible shooting at a high school in Parkland, Florida, that left 17 innocent students and teachers dead.
At a listening session with families of the victims of the massacre, an aloof Trump was caught with a cheat sheet that reminded him to show compassion and empathy.
