Donald Trump and Malcolm Turnbull had a very heated telephone conversation that concluded with the president more or less hanging up on the Australian prime minister. The less than cordial chat between the two world leaders prompted Trump to rush to Twitter and blast Turnbull with an inaccurate statement. The first major leak from the White House has taken place on Wednesday afternoon thanks to CNN’s Jim Acosta. One of Trump’s top advisors shared several details about the fiery chat between POTUS and Turnbull.
The billionaire got into a screaming match with Turnbull over 1,250 refugees that the Barack Obama’s administration had agreed to take from Nauru and Manus Island.
Trump yelled at Turnbull saying that he does not want “those people” in America. He also asked Turnbull, why is he trying to send the “next Boston bombers” to the United States? A furious Trump slammed the head of Australia and told him that he spoke to many top politicians in the day, and he was “the worst call by far.”
It is not known why but Trump went on to brag about how he won big and explained that the other leaders he spoke to had congratulated him. Trump told the prime minister it was the “worst deal ever,” and if he accepted more than a thousand refugees in the country, he was “going to get killed” politically.
Mr. Turnbull attempted to change the conversation by turning to foreign affairs including the conflict in Syria, prompting President Trump to terminate the chat abruptly. The fiery exchange took place just hours after Trump had signed the controversial travel or Muslim ban, which suspended refugees from seven Muslim countries from entering America.
The resettlement agreement states that 1250 refugees from Iraq, Iran, and Afghanistan would be relocated to America and Australia would resettle refugees from El Salvador, Honduras, and Guatemala.
Tuesday morning, White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer said the Trump administration would still accept the refugees after they go through extreme vetting.
Wednesday night, Trump fired the following tweet: “Do you believe it? The Obama Administration agreed to take thousands of illegal immigrants from Australia. Why? I will study this dumb deal!”
We can officially say Trump 1 Turnbull 0.
