There has not yet been an official engagement announcement from the palace, but rumors are flying that Meghan Markle wants Kate Middleton to be the maid of honor at her wedding to Prince Harry. Can the rumors be true?
If you dive into the claims made by Celeb Dirty Laundry and spread further by Woman’s Day and Closer Weekly, the answer is an emphatic “no.”
Those sites are claiming that Markle sent Middleton a Tiffany & Co. rose gold solitaire bracelet worth almost $2,000, along with a note asking her to be her maid of honor. There are also claims that Queen Elizabeth has given her blessing to an April 2018 wedding date.
However, when it comes to the royal family, everything is meticulously planned and done with a purpose. With the lack of an official engagement announcement, any other reported wedding detail turns out to simply just be gossip.

The idea that Middleton would be the Suits actress’s Maid of Honor is simply impossible, because royal protocol dictates that the role is for an unmarried woman. Also, even though Markle and Middleton may get along, it would make more sense for the Maid of Honor to be one of Markle’s family members or close friends, just like Pippa Middleton was for the Duchess at her wedding to Prince William in 2011.
Of course, we can’t forget that Middleton is pregnant with her third child and expected to deliver in the spring of next year. Who has time to help plan a wedding and give birth to a baby?
The truth is until an engagement happens and is announced; any so-called wedding details can’t be believed.
If Markle does eventually become a part of the royal family, it is quite possible that she could become close to Middleton, the two do have a lot in common. They both have mothers who worked in the travel industry, they are extremely educated (Middleton graduated from St. Andrews University, while Markle graduated from Northwestern), and they share a love for charity work.
Being a royal spouse is a huge undertaking, and it would make sense for them to look to each other for support, and a close friendship could emerge. However, until there is a ring on Meghan Markle’s finger, everything is just speculation.
