There are a lot of mysteries when it comes to how the Duggars handle their children’s education, especially when they get old enough to leave the roost. Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar famously homeschool all their kids and don’t talk much about college, leaving fans to wonder if any of the Duggars ever attend anything beyond a homeschool education.
Given all of his success in real estate and politics, one would think that Jim Bob attended some form of college in his younger years. After all, Jim Bob’s real estate business is a thriving enterprise and he has thrown his hat in the political ring on several occasions.
But the highest level of education Jim Bob has received was a high school diploma. In fact, the last class Jim Bob attended was at Shiloh Christian School, the same place where he hooked up with Michelle, who also failed to enroll in college.

While Jim Bob and Michelle never received a post-secondary education, a few of their kids have gone on to attend some form of college.
According to Romper, Jana and Jill Duggar have taken a few midwifery courses while some of their siblings have started online classes through College Plus. This program is specifically geared towards Christians and it isn’t clear if any of the Duggars have complete enough credits for a degree. Beyond this, none of the Duggars have gone to a traditional college.
Why doesn’t the family send their kids to college?
For starters, there is a strong chance that college is simply too expensive for the Duggars. After all, sending 19 kids to college would cost a fortune and is probably more than the Duggars could handle.
Secondly, the Duggars do not place a lot of value on a secular education. Jim Bob and Michelle are well known for their conservative Christian values and they probably don’t encourage their kids to go to traditional Universities, which often lean more towards the liberal end of the ideological spectrum.
There’s also the fact that Jim Bob has done extremely well for himself without a college degree. If he can do it, why can’t his kids?
Whatever the reasons, Michelle recently opened up about her kids taking classes through College Plus and admitted that some of them are seeking a degree. “A few of our kids are taking courses right now, and I think some of them will go for their degrees in whichever areas they decide,” Michelle explained, adding that many of them probably won’t go on to receive a full degree.
The Duggar family returns with all-new episodes of Counting On this summer on TLC.
