The Duggar family – stars of Counting On and former stars of 19 Kids & Counting – took a Texas road trip last weekend to Waco, and disgraced oldest son Josh Duggar showed up in one of the pictures from the mini-vacation. With his recent return to social media, could that mean he will eventually show up in new episodes of Counting On?
Josh’s wife Anna posted pictures on Instagram of the family trip, and in one of the photos, the 30-year-old made a rare appearance. Others who came along for the trek to Fixer Upper stars Chip and Joanna Gaines’ Magnolia Market and Magnolia Table restaurant included family matriarch Michelle, her sister-in-law Deanna, mother-in-law Mary, and daughters, Jessa and Janna.
Friday we traveled 436 miles to reach Waco and had a wonderful visit at the Silos! Our kids had fun playing corn toss with dad, while mom went shopping! A group of us had an amazing lunch at Magnolia Table. After lunch was finished, Mason was ready for a nap and mom was ready for coffee (a mom’s nap in cup!). Thanks Chip & Joanna for your investment in Waco… our family made many special memories! #Waco
There were also a few boys along for the ride in addition to Josh, and they included adopted brother Tyler and Jessa’s husband, Ben Seewald.
The trip came just one week after Jinger Duggar and her husband Jeremy Vuolo visited the popular destination, and since Fixer Upper just ended its run on HGTV, the double Duggar visit has increased speculation that the Gaines’ could be moving to TLC for a new reality show.
It has been three years since Josh’s molestation and cheating scandal nearly ended his family’s media empire. The news that he molested five underage girls – including four of his sisters – when he was a teenager led to TLC canceling 19 Kids & Counting and Josh lost his Washington D.C. lobbying job.
The oldest Duggar son also went to a faith-based rehab program after he admitted to having a sex addiction when the news broke that he had an account on the affair site Ashley Madison.
Since returning from rehab, Josh and Anna had baby number five and have settled back into life in Arkansas, but neither he or his wife have been on the family’s reality spinoff, and their social media presence has been almost non-existent.
For over two years, Anna avoided Instagram, but just a few weeks ago she returned to her account and started posting pictures of her family. She mostly shares images of the couple’s five children, Mackynzie, Michael, Marcus, Meredith, and Mason. But, on a couple of occasions, she has also featured pics and video of Josh.
You know you’re a #DuggarMom when your kids eat cucumbers faster than you can prepare them! I’m so thankful for the 5 beautiful children God has given us (+1 in heaven!). Jim Bob & Michelle have 10 grandchildren and 2 more on the way. On Joshua’s side of the family I’m mommy to 1/2 of the grandchildren so far…and the only grand-daughters! #FunFactFriday @duggarfam
Some sources claim that Jim Bob, the family patriarch, has been working with Josh on a possible return to TV, and he even shot a webisode last year where Josh talked about the joy of being a dad for the fifth time.
But, it doesn’t seem likely that Josh will make an appearance on Counting On anytime soon since the memory of his scandal is still fresh in the minds of many fans. Plus, TLC has gone to great lengths to remove Josh Duggar from footage that later aired on the show.
New episodes of Counting On will return to TLC later this summer.
