After touring for nearly 50 years, Elton John recently revealed that he would be retiring from the road after his three-year, 300-gig Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour that will begin in September.
However, for his current Las Vegas residency, he has quietly cleared his calendar for a particular weekend in May that happens to be the same weekend that Prince Harry will marry Meghan Markle. Does his new schedule mean that he will be performing at the royal wedding?
Apparently John changed the dates for his concerts at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas scheduled for Friday, May 18th and Saturday, May 19th. The Million Dollar Piano performances will now take place on Sunday, May 6th and Wednesday, May 16th.
At this year’s Grammy Awards, when asked if he would be attending and/or performing at the royal event, he said that he had no idea, and no one has invited him yet.
“I’m playing in Vegas, so I don’t know what’s going to happen. It will be nice because I love him very dearly,” said the 70-year-old.
His husband, David Furnish, added that the couple had their fingers crossed.
Obviously, they want to be at St. George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle for the big day; they just had to wait for a nod from the couple. Now that John has cleared the weekend, it seems they may have received their invitation.
John was very close with Harry’s mother, Princess Diana, and he revealed in an interview last month that he had spent some time with the red-headed royal last summer in Sicily and he could tell that the prince was totally in love and thought, “Good for you.”
The Rocket Man added, “When people get married, you want it to last. You want them to be happy. I’m happy for him. I hope they have a wonderful day.”
John was one of a handful of celebrities who attended the wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton at Westminster Abbey in 2011 – the same venue where he performed Candle in the Wind at Diana’s funeral in 1997.
The Grammy winner has said that both William and Harry are special to him because of their mother, and he called the 33-year-old “a good boy.” John also said that Harry’s heart is in the right place and he wants him to be happy.
With decades of hits in his repertoire, John will certainly be able to fill up the dance floor if he does perform at the wedding.
American fans will also get their chance to hear the music legend sing live one last time, Elton John recently announced that he will perform in North America multiple times before his retirement tour ends in 2021.
