Dick Gautier Dead At 85

At the age of 85, actor Richard “Dick” Gautier, who played the robot Hymie in the series ‘Get Smart’ died Saturday, January 14th, announced by his wife, Tess Hightower via her Facebook account: “Dick died peacefully tonight.” Gautier died in assisted living facility in Los Angeles County.
Gautier began his career in the entertainment industry as a stand-up comedian before eventually finding success on Broadway winning a Tony Award in 1961 for his part in ‘Conrad Birdie.’
“He was proud to be among those nominated for the Tony,” his publicist Harlan Boll told on Monday.
The talented actor then played recurring roles in numerous TV series and movies such as ‘Divorce,’ ‘American Style’, ‘Billy Jack,’ ‘Happy Days’ and more recently ‘Nip/Tuck on the FX Network.’
Gautier’s most memorable role remains that of Hymie, the robot created by Dr Ratton in episodes of Get Smart. The series aired from 1965 to 1970. Designed by KAOS, the humanoid robot had the strength of Hercules but was always trying to be more human.
Richard is survived by three children, four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. The staff of Celebrity Insider pass on our condolences to Mr Gautiers wife and family.
