In a brand new interview with Robin Roberts from GMA, the designer apologized for defending the shamed producer who has been at the center of a huge Hollywood sexual abuse scandal in recent weeks. In a previous interview, when asked about her opinion on the Weinstein bombshell, Donna Karan suggested that sometimes women are ‘asking for it’ by their choice of clothing.
As expected, her controversial comment attracted a lot of backlash, celebs such as Patricia Arquette, Rose McGowan and Megyn Kelly slamming her soon after.
After initially claiming her statement was ‘taken out of context,’ the designer decided to apologize and further explain.
‘First of all, I want to say how sorry I am. What I said is so wrong, and not who I am. I made a huge mistake. I love women. I absolutely adore women. I care about them. I am a mother, I am a grandmother. You know, and I have never done this before, and I will never, ever do it again,’ Karan started and then went on to blame her words on being exhausted after a 14-hour-long flight that day.
She also claimed that at the time she was not entirely aware of the extent of the accusations against Weinstein.
What do you think about the designer’s apology and explanation? Do you think her excuses make her initial statement any more acceptable?
