Demi Lovato turned 26 years old today, and it is safe to say she’s never been happier to be alive. The same can be said about her loved ones considering the singer almost died after suffering a drug overdose.
Demi’s younger sister Madison De La Garza, took to social media to mark the special day, wishing her a very happy birthday and expressing her gratitude that she is alive and well now.
‘Today could’ve been one of the worst days of my life, but instead, I get to spend it thanking God, the incredible doctors, Demi’s team and everyone in the world who offered their support. I have been thinking about how I wish everyone could see the silly little things she does, like how her nostrils move when she says certain words and when she brushes my hair behind my ear when I am trying to sleep, because those are the things I am thankful for today,’ Madison sweetly wrote on Instagram.
She went on to say that while things like that might ‘seem so small, those little things make up my sister—not a singer, not a celebrity and definitely not what she’s been described as in the media—she’s a daughter, a friend, and my big sister… and I am so, so thankful that I can tell her happy birthday.’
Madison was not the only member of the family who reflected on what happened.
Demi’s mother shared Madison’s message in addition to thanking the fans for ‘all your love and prayers. I am truly blessed.’
A couple of weeks ago, Demi also opened up about the incident that could have killed her, echoing similar sentiments as her family.
‘I want to thank God for keeping me alive and well. To my fans, I’m forever grateful for all your love and support this past week and beyond. Your positive thoughts and your prayers have helped me navigate through this difficult time,’ Demi wrote.
