Today, during a concert in Portugal, Demi Lovato performed her brand new single Sober, about her experience with addiction and she fought back the tears. The singer took to social media to share a video from the music festival, Rock in Rio Lisboa as she took the stage.
As you may be aware, Demi has struggled with addiction for years and not too long ago, she relapsed.
That being said, when she reached the part in the lyrics where she is talking about disappointing her fans, Demi’s voice cracked due to being on the verge of tears.
‘And I’m sorry for the fans that I lost, who watched me fall again. I wanna be a role model, but I’m only human,’ she sings, getting more and more emotional.
Aside from the video, she posted on Instagram, Lovato also had a message.
‘Tonight I took the stage, a new person with a new life. Thank you to everyone who has supported me throughout this journey. It will never be forgotten ❤ @rockinriolisboa.’
Demi is currently on her Tell Me You Love Me tour.
A couple of insiders told ET that Demi relapsed sometime between her North American leg and her European leg of the world tour.
As a result of allegedly breaking her sobriety after six years, she wrote Sober.
The song has been receiving a lot of praise for the amount of vulnerability it contains as well as for the fact that it brings awareness to addiction and relapse.
Iggy Azalea is just one of the many who showed Demi support.
She tweeted: ‘I am proud of you for having the guts to reveal your truth to the world again. NOT. EASY.’
