Social media was taken aback by the fact that 21 Savage was actually a U.K. citizen and so, a number of memes were born! That being said, some fellow celebs, like Demi Lovato, thought the said memes were quite funny so she proceeded to react to one that caused some backlash to come her way.
Now, the singer is shooting back at the haters that perhaps went too far with their insults.
Just yesterday, Demi decided to delete her Twitter after people left her many hateful comments.
The whole drama started when Lovato tweeted a meme that showed someone using a quill pen and read: ‘This is how 21 Savage be writing verses.’
This is obviously a joke about the rapper being from the U.K., which is stereotypically known to be very posh and proper.
21 Savage was arrested by immigration officials for supposedly living illegally in the United States since 2006!
As for Demi’s meme, the rapper’s fans did not appreciate it at all, reason for which they started to slam her and perhaps went too far by attacking her for her overdose.
Here are a couple of the harsh comments: ‘Go shoot some more heroin Demi.’ / ‘She’s a hypocrite let’s pull out the heroin memes and see if this b**** doesn’t get emotional.’
By deleting her Twitter, it seemed like the star wanted to get away from the toxic attacks but she couldn’t help but fire back on her Instagram Stories.
‘Wasn’t laughing at anyone getting deported. I know that’s not a joke…not have I EVER laughed at that. The meme I posted/was talking about was him writing with a feather pen. Sorry if I offended anyone. But it’s no excuse to laugh at someone’s addiction, let alone their OD,’ Demi wrote.
She went on to explain that she ‘wasn’t making fun of anything having to do with deportation or even anything against him. I was laughing at who the f*** knew 21 was British? Literally no one. That’s it. It doesn’t go deeper than that. I’m sorry if I upset people truly.’
