Dana White has officially made the first move in the potential Mcgregor-Mayweather fight. He has offered Floyd “Money” Mayweather $25 million to fight Conor McGregor – who would also make $25 million. There would also be a Pay-Per-View split between both parties. White just made the offer on FS1’s The Herd.
White’s offer comes after Mayweather Jr. claimed to have offered McGregor $15 million for the fight. White was asked on the show if he believes Mayweather actually wants to fight. The UFC president responded that he doesn’t know and that the situation was so odd. He stated that Mayweather Jr. hasn’t spoken to any one, and that if he wanted to speak to anyone about the fight, it would be him. He’s the promoter and Conor is under the contract with him.
He also debunked Mayewather’s claim that McGregor had never made up to $10 million in a fight. He stated that Conor is the “A-side” in the fight, as Mayweather Jr. last fight left a bad taste in everyone’s mouth. He added that “Money” only did 350k PPV’s in that fight, while McGregor last two fights did $1.3 and $1.5 million. He believes Floyd wants this fight so bad because it is his money fight, even if he sees it as an easy boxing match.
When asked what he thought the fight could do in terms of Pay-Per-View numbers, he said he had to take an educated guess in situations like this. He stated that he would be disappointed if it didn’t do over 2 million – between 2.3 – 2.5 million. He added that the potential upside could be similar to what the Mayweather-Pacquiao fight did. The Maywather-Pacquiao fight did 4.6 million PPV buys and made over $400 million in revenue.
Mayweather is used to making way above the $25 million White offered, so we have to wait and see how Mayweather responds to it.
