Celebrity Insider reported at the beginning of the month that the Sex and The City alum, Cynthia Nixon, was considering running for the governor of New York. At the time, it seemed like a joke, but she really is going for it.
On the 19th of March, Nixon announced her official bid and right around the same time, her cast and co-star, Kristin Davis, congratulated Nixon on her next move. Davis said she would make an “excellent governor.” As you may know, this isn’t the first time a celebrity has run for the governorship.
Many actors have successfully made the transition from either the stage or small screen to public office. Some of the most influential celebrities-turned-politicians include Arnold Schwarzenegger, who was the governor of California, as well as Al Franken who used to work in the Senate.
However, everyone remembers when Franken lost his job following the sexual misconduct allegations against him. Hopefully, Nixon’s reign as an elected official will go much smoother. Either way, Cynthia’s former co-stars were stoked she was running for Governor.
They were able to put aside past drama to congratulate her on the future. Nixon told People Magazine that Davis, Cattrall, and Jessica Parker wished her the best of luck.
Davis will run against Andrew Cuomo in the Democratic Primary, and she thinks that Cuomo has done an insufficient job of representing the interests of New Yorkers. Despite reports that Kim was thrilled to hear about Nixon’s recent news, some fans thought her response was merely professional.
When a fan asked Cattrall what she thought of Nixon running for the position, Kim seemed to be nonchalant about the whole thing. Kim said she “respects and supports any former colleague’s right to make their own career choices.” That hardly seems like praise and support.
According to Nixon, the reasoning for running for the governorship was the election of Donald Trump, which made her feel as though women everywhere need to stand up for themselves.
