Counting On star John David Duggar and his fiancée Abbie Grace Burnett have apparently decided to ignore Jim Bob’s famous courting rules. Now that they are engaged, it looks like the happy couple is doing things their own way, and they don’t care who knows it.
According to OK! Magazine, eyewitnesses are claiming that Duggar and Burnett were recently out on an unchaperoned date, and the 26-year-old nurse was wearing shorts, which means the couple was breaking two rules at once.
“I just heard that John and Abbie were spotted today unchaperoned at the Tontitown Grape Festival… and Abbie was wearing shorts!” wrote the administrator of the Duggar fan site Life Is Not All Pickles and Hairspray.
Surprisingly, there are no pictures of Duggar and Burnett’s rule-breaking. But, since the rules don’t seem to apply to them, chances are there will be photographic evidence of their rebellion at some point before they get married.
Duggar and Burnett announced their courtship on June 26th, and just one month later the couple broke the news that they were engaged to be married. They told fans via a TLC video where the couple showed off Burnett’s engagement ring, and they revealed that they had been ready for a while to take their relationship to the next level.
That seems to imply that the couple kept their relationship a secret, so they could live life the way they wanted to until they were ready to share it with the world. Duggar, who is 28 and the second-oldest son in the family, has a history of doing things his own way, and insiders say he is not a fan of Jim Bob’s rules.
John David is definitely one of the more independent Duggars, and he doesn’t seem to care about the brand his family has tried to build over the past decade. He rarely appears on Counting On, and does things on his terms, both personally and professionally.
John David Duggar constantly seems to get away with things that his sisters can’t — not even Jana . Jim Bob does not allow his daughters to have careers or leave the house until they are married. But, John David can work as a constable and a pilot, while buying his own home.
New episodes of Counting On air Monday nights on Bravo.
