Greedy much? Members of the Duggar family are no strangers to money-making schemes, but Jessa Duggar’s latest financial scandal might be the worst yet. Jessa and her husband, Ben Seewald, are looking to unload a portion of their land and are asking a whopping $200,000 for it — despite acquiring the property for a mere $1.
The Counting On couple currently lives in a house on a plot of land close to Interstate 49, which is notorious for its wrecks. Jessa bought the property from her grandmother, Mary Duggar, last summer for only $1. The home and land were originally valued at around $100,000, but the two are seeking to unload it for double that price.
Selling the land isn’t that big of a deal. But asking double the value is a scandalous move, especially when Jessa and her husband got it for nothing. Even worse, a local realtor told Radar Online that the couple is not selling the house in the deal, only a portion of the land, which comes ups to .46 acres.
“Perfect for a new business to catch traffic from all directions,” the property description advertises. “With approx. 200 of I-49 frontage, you will be seen.”
Jessa and Seewald’s home runs close to the dangerous highway. In fact, only a cluster of trees separate the family from speeding cars. With two little ones to look after — Spurgeon, 2, and Henry, 1 — fans have raised safety concerns about the highway in the past.
Jessa and Seewald have not commented on the financial scandal, but they aren’t the first Duggars to face similar scrutiny. A few years ago, Jill Duggar and Derick Dillard came under fire for asking fans to donate money to help them go on a missionary trip with their church.
The two did not say exactly where the money would go and asked for pledges of $100 per month. In 2017, the couple ended their missionary work and once again asked fans to donate money for their ministry. They only raised $125 before ending the fundraising effort.
Money scandals aside, Jessa also made headlines recently when she revealed that she’s tasted alcohol. The Duggars are famous for their strict set of religious rules and do not allow their kids to booze it up.
In a recent interview, however, Jessa Duggar revealed that she has tasted alcohol on more than one occasion, but never on purpose.
Counting On returns with all-new episodes this summer on TLC.
