Counting On star Joy-Anna Duggar and her husband Austin Forsyth welcomed their first baby, Gideon Martyn Forsyth, last week, but the couple didn’t announce his arrival for two days, and there are some unanswered questions about his birth. Did the reality star suffer a medical crisis that forced her to deliver in a hospital?
The Duggars are known for having their babies at home, so when photos surfaced of Joy-Anna and her new baby in the hospital, fans were surprised.
The 20-year-old explained in a video on the TLC website that she and her husband were preparing for a home birth by setting up the birth pool, cleaning up the house, and adding beds to the guest room.
But, she did reveal that she was “flexible” and had a plan B so that if something unexpected happened, they would be ready.
She ended up giving birth on February 23rd at 3:39 in the afternoon, but they didn’t announce their baby news until the following Monday. They haven’t given any details about the birth, but the fact that they went to the hospital is making fans wonder what happened.
The Fayetteville Police Department and Central EMS confirmed that they did not receive any 911 calls from the couple’s home around the time of Gideon’s arrival.
But, that doesn’t mean everything went smoothly.
Joy-Anna’s older sister Jill had to go to the hospital after 70 hours of labor with her first son Israel. When she made it, doctors discovered he was in breech position, and they had to perform an emergency C-section.
The family also had to rush Jessa to the hospital after she gave birth to her oldest son Spurgeon at home. Her mom Michelle called 911 and said that Jessa was bleeding a lot and needed doctors to check her out. She ended up getting a blood transfusion.
As for Joy-Anna, her cousin Amy posted photos on Instagram of the new mom laying in a hospital bed surrounded by machines, so it appears she may have had a complication that forced her to go to the hospital.
Baby Gideon weighed in at 10 pounds and 3 ounces and is 22 inches long, and he and his mom are reportedly doing excellent since his arrival.
Joy-Anna Duggar and her husband said that seeing their baby for the first time was an incredible moment and they are thankful and blessed beyond measure.
