It looks like another Duggar daughter is slowly starting to part ways with the family’s infamous dress code. This past weekend, Counting On star Joy-Anna Duggar appeared in an Instagram pic along with her husband, Austin Forsyth, and their three-month-old son Gideon. And, the 20-year-old showed some signs of rebellion by wearing a dress that hit just below the knee.
These days, fans pay a lot of attention to the “rebel Duggars,” – the kids of Jim Bob and Michelle who have rejected some of the more asinine rules in their strict upbringing. Jinger, Jill, and Jessa have all started to wear pants, and Jill has taken things even further by rocking a nose piercing and henna tattoos.
But, as The Hollywood Gossip reports, there is part of the family’s loyal fan base who is more interested in stories like Joy-Anna’s, who is one of the kids who has adhered to just about every single aspect of their fundamentalist belief system. She has mostly stuck to the Duggar’s conservative customs and traditions that helped make her large family famous.
She got married at 19 – to the first guy that she courted – and started a family immediately by getting pregnant on her honeymoon. She also adheres to the family’s strict dress code of floor-length skirts and dresses made of heavy fabrics like denim.
So, the fact that she chose to show some calf by wearing a dress in a lighter floral fabric with a just-below-the-knee hemline – and some heels – is a sign to some fans that she is taking the first step towards wearing her own style and putting the Duggar dress code behind her.
Of course, her dress is still quite modest, and for the most part, she is sticking to the rules. But, this could be the start of her slow move towards independence.
Fans have been posting complimentary comments, saying the dress is “amazing” and “cute,” and that could help nudge the new mom towards a greater interest in expressing herself with her own style choices.
You can follow Joy-Anna Duggar’s fashion evolution when new episodes of Counting On return to TLC later this summer.
