Longtime fans of 19 Kids & Counting and its spinoff Counting On know that before a Duggar kid gets married and leaves home, they must follow a strict set of rules that cover everything from clothing to courtship. The dress code requires extremely modest clothing and the courting guidelines don’t allow any physical contact (besides side hugs) or alone time.
But, as soon as a Duggar meets “the one” the parameters immediately change. And, it appears that newly-engaged Josiah Duggar is taking full advantage of the freedom his upcoming wedding has given him.
When a man in the Duggar family gets engaged, he becomes the head of a household and governs as he pleases, but a woman becomes subservient to her husband instead of her father. After marrying Jeremy Vuolo, Jinger Duggar started showing her rebellious side by wearing pants, heels, and short skirts – big violations of the Duggar dress code.
But now as Josiah prepares to marry Lauren Swanson next month, it looks like he is planning to cast off the shackles of his parents’ oppression in a way that signals a major shift in the family’s balance of power. A former Duggar employee says everyone who knows Josiah is bracing themselves for how he will assert his independence because it is likely to bring him into direct conflict with his dad, Jim Bob.
Apparently, Josiah is the family’s biggest rule-breaker we have seen so far.
“Josiah is gonna be the next one to bust out. He’s a little bit crazy,” claims a source. “He’s a 90-mile-an-hour guy. He drives 90 miles an hour, he moves 90 miles an hour, he thinks 90 miles an hour.”
The Hollywood Gossip reports that an insider revealed Josiah recently neglected his father’s orders and it almost resulted in tragedy. The source claims that the 21-year-old almost killed a couple of people with a car after he went “90 miles an hour off the back of a roll-off truck right into another car.”
But, the disaster wasn’t a surprise to those who are familiar with Josiah’s reckless ways.
He has been disregarding his family’s customs for a while now. Josiah is the only sibling in the family to have multiple courtships, and he has also had his own social media account since his first courtship with Marjorie Jackson back in 2015. The Duggars usually do not allow their children to be on social media until they are married.
Josiah Duggar started courting Lauren Swanson back in January, and the couple got engaged in March. According to the anti-Duggar Facebook page Life Is Not All Pickles and Hairspray, the couple will tie the knot on June 30th.
New episodes of Counting On return to TLC later this summer.
