Fans of Counting On know that the Duggar family follows a set of super conservative rules that include no physical contact or kissing before marriage, modest clothing only for the women, no modern music, movies or television, and no social media until an engagement. Another family rule does not allow body modification of any kind, which means no tattoos or piercings. But, Jeremy Vuolo, Jinger Duggar’s husband, didn’t seem to get them memo about no tattoos.
Surprisingly, there is some body ink in the Duggar clan, but it belongs to people who aren’t immediate family instead of those who were born into it. None of the original 19 kids have tattoos (that we know of), but there have been rumors.
The Duggars’ opposition to tattoos comes from a verse in the Bible – a book the family attempts to follow to the letter – that states “Ye shall not make any cuttings in your flesh for the dead, nor print or tattoo any marks upon you: I am the Lord.”
According to Romper, one Duggar-through-marriage that has tattoos is Vuolo, who has ink on the inside of his upper right arm which appears to be a line of text. Many believe it to be a Bible verse, but no one has actually been able to read it.
However, Jinger has recently posted a plethora of pics of the 30-year-old wearing short sleeves, and the tattoo has seemingly disappeared, which leads fans to believe he got it removed.
Jinger is known as the “Rebel Duggar,” and her husband is not like the men her sisters married. He has a history that features a “bad boy streak,” that includes an arrest in 2008 for physically harassing a police officer.
The former professional soccer player also attended a secular college and admitted to “partying” and “drinking” while getting his higher education.
Vuolo questioned Christianity many times during his upbringing but now refers to himself as a “born-again Christian,” which means that he re-dedicated himself to the religion.
Another member of the family with permanent ink is Amy Duggar, also known as Cousin Amy. She and her husband, Dillon King, got matching tattoos back in 2016 that read, “Rest in the storm.”
Amy, the first cousin of the famous 19 kids, took pics of her trip to the tattoo parlor and shared them on Instagram with a caption explaining the ink. She wrote that she and her husband would focus on God’s promise and presence to enjoy shelter from the storms of life.
As for members of the immediate family, Jill has pierced her nose and experimented with body art by rocking henna tattoos, but it doesn’t seem like she has any permanent ink yet.
Jeremy Vuolo and Jinger Duggar return with new episodes of Counting On later this summer on TLC.
