Counting On star Josiah Duggar announced his engagement to Lauren Swanson back in March, and less than four months later, they are officially husband and wife. Did the couple ditch their original plans so they could throw a shotgun wedding?
Radar Online is reporting that Duggar and Swanson were planning to marry on New Year’s Eve, but the couple ended up marrying on June 30th.
This past week, Duggar’s brother-in-law, Derick Dillard, had fans wondering if the wedding already took place after he posted a pic of his son Israel trying to catch a garter at a wedding reception. But, Dillard and his son were actually at a Dillard family wedding, and he clued fans in by using the hashtag #happilyevertougaw. Tougaw is the maiden name of Dillard’s sister-in-law Deena, who is married to his brother Dan. It was Deena’s brother who had tied the knot, and that was that reception that Dillard and his son attended.
If fans are experiencing a bit of shotgun wedding deja-vu, that’s because we went through the same thing last year with Joy-Anna Duggar and Austin Forsyth. The couple originally had planned to marry in October, but they moved the date up to May – sparking rumors of a shotgun wedding. Their pregnancy announcement just three months later fueled the rumors that they had conceived their son, Gideon, out of wedlock.
It has been a crazy year for the Duggar family. In addition to Josiah’s engagement and wedding, Joy-Anna gave birth to her son in February, and Joseph and his wife Kendra Caldwell welcomed a son in early June. Jinger Duggar and her husband, Jeremy Vuolo, are also expecting their first child – a daughter who should be arriving in the next couple of weeks.
And, just last week, John David Duggar announced that he is courting Abbie Grace Burnett. So, that means we should hear another Duggar engagement announcement very soon.
As for Josiah and Swanson, they kept their wedding details private, which is why no one was certain about the June 30th wedding date. But, rumors did fly that they were planning a summer ceremony, since Duggars traditionally get married not long after announcing an engagement.
Josiah Duggar and Lauren Swanson did have a date of December 31st on their wedding registry, but now it appears that was simply a decoy – or maybe they had a reason to get married sooner rather than later.
Season eight of Counting On premieres July 30th on TLC.
